Financing Renewable Energy In BRICS: A Comparison of South Africa, India and China

Access to finance will drive renewable energy and other green infrastructure projects. Beyond the pressuring environmental, political and moral imperatives to transition away from fossil-fuel based energies, progress in renewable energy and green technologies have advanced to a stage where green projects show higher rates of return than traditional fossil fuel projects. However, like other infrastructure development projects, such returns are appreciated over the long-term, causing investors much concerns about the long-term risk. This webinar explores these concerns and highlights strategies to improve financing opportunities for the BRICS, to aid in scaling up Renewable Energy adoption.

In this light, the Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC), in partnership with Nelson Mandela University, the University of Venda and the South African BRICS Think Tank, supported by the National Institute for the Humanities and Social Sciences, and the South African BRICS Think Tank are hosting this webinar to bring together voices from the BRICS, to share ideas and strategies for our collective benefit.

The webinar is open to members of the public including researchers, practitioners, civil society and local government representatives engaged in the renewable energy sector. Our discussions will help identify opportunities to expand renewable energy projects and overcome the barriers impeding the growth of renewable energy at a city level.
