Social Intergration of immigrants in South African local Muncipalities

Abstract

To analyse institutional coordination for social integration of immigrants using the District Development Model (DDM) and taking into account the social structure of host communities To explore the challenges of social integration of immigrants in local municipalities in Gauteng Province To explore local municipalities abilities and preparedness to deal with the challenges of social integration of immigrants in local municipalities To determine the best practices/strategies of social integration of immigrants into local municipalities as a way of enhancing social cohesion and nation building To organise four dialogues in districts/informal settlements in Johannesburg and Tshwane. The dialogues will bring together residents of the informal settlements, and targeted researchers/academics (as well as policy makers DHA, DSD, DoJCD, DTC, DBE, DoH including hospital managers), traditional leaders, civic actors, social movements, faith-based actors, business, etc
