Abstract

This report presents the findings of the pilot study for the Gauteng State of the Youth Survey (GSYS) conducted during the period 1 June 2018 - 9 June 2018. The pilot study focussed on testing the questionnaire for the quantitative survey component of the study as well as the qualitative focus group schedule for participants of the Tshepo 1Million programme. The pilot thus focussed on the two central themes that form the focus of the project (1) an assessment of the state of the youth in the Gauteng province, and (2) an assessment of Tshepo 1Million based on the experience of its users. Of particular interest was how respondents reacted to the length of the questionnaire and as well as the nature and difficulty of the questions. Also of particular importance was testing the Mobenzi Research App as a potential technology to collect data for the survey component of the GSYS study.
