Abstract

This paper gives concluding observations on Nelson Mandela, South Africa and Burundi. It is noted, given the yet incomplete nature of the peace process, definite judgments are premature. None the less, it is proposed that Nelson Mandela played critical role ion pushing the peace process foreword, and that his efforts have been complemented and sustained by South Africa's wider foreign policy in Africa. Yet these and any other efforts to make peace cannot succeed unless Burundians seek to take control of their destiny.
