Tanja Gordon is a PhD intern in the HSRC's Developmental, Capable and Ethical State research division. She holds a master's degree in health economics from the University of KwaZulu-Natal (2019). Gordon's master's degree focused on health inequalities and her PhD focus is on affordability and resource decision-making from the perspective of the health system.

Gordon was formerly a master's intern at the HSRC (2017-2019) before pursuing a joint PhD with the University of Bristol and the University of Cape Town in 2020. Since 2021, she has contributed to various research proposal write-ups and projects at the HSRC. She is currently working on a project that involves the comparative assessment of COVID-19 interventions and their performance during the pandemic. Her contribution to the project includes the evaluation of a selected government department's role, interventions, and the impact these interventions have had on the country.

Gordon is a third-year scholar on the University of Bristol ? University of Cape Town Cotutelle programme. She has contributed to two papers, as first author and co-author, respectively, co-authored a policy brief and has presented work based on her master's research at four conferences.
