The Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC) wishes to extend its condolences to the family of the former President of South Africa, Mr Thabo Mbeki, whose mother, Nomaka Epainette Mbeki, passed away on Saturday, 7 June 2014.
“We mourn the loss of this great stalwart with her family. She was a pillar of strength during the dark days of apartheid, a political activist and a strong independent woman and mother,” said HSRC CEO Prof. Olive Shisana. “Her work in the Eastern Cape and elsewhere will always be remembered and celebrated.”
