The sixth South African HIV Prevalence, Incidence, Behaviour and Communication Survey (SABSSM VI) kicks off

Pretoria, Friday 4 February  2022 – The Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC) invites members of the media to join a webinar for the launch of the sixth South African HIV Prevalence, Incidence, Behaviour and Communication Survey (also known as the sixth South Africa Behavioural, Sero-status and Media impact survey (SABSSM VI) on Tuesday, 08 February 2022 at 14h00.

The survey will be officially launched by the Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation, Buti Manamela.

First commissioned by Former President Nelson Mandela in 2001, the study is a population-based, cross-sectional survey of households throughout South Africa that gathers information on HIV incidence, prevalence, and other related indicators in South Africa. 

SABSSM VI is conducted by the HSRC in partnership with the US Centers for Diseases Control and Prevention, South African Medical Research Council, the University of Cape Town, and the National Institute for Communicable Diseases, and PEPFAR South Africa.

The launch can be attended physically at the HSRC centres in Pretoria, Durban and Cape Town or virtually via Teams. All COVID-19 protocols will be observed.
