Abstract

For this proposed platform to succeed in its mission, it is crucial that additional social studies be conducted in order to elucidate the various social, cultural, and cognitive features of the target communities that are likely to foster or hinder the intended structural changes. In the approach to understanding the socio-economic environment in which the proposed change must take place, it is important to bear in mind that what works in one community is not necessarily appropriate for another. Behavioural, cultural and political elements could make or break the success of such a programme. The social studies for this initiative will seek to understand: ??? The social context of each environment, which will inform the interventions required; The impact of interventions on those affected; How to best align and embed interventions in the communities for citizens to take ownership; and The political and influential structures in the communities that influence outcomes. The social context study will seek to shed light to social factors of target communities to the extent that they affect the capability to achieve the stated vision and objectives. Social structures, cohesion factors and community linkages will be explored to shed light on their dynamics and how those dynamics affect the acceptance of the proposed interventions.
