Abstract

South Africa is undergoing a major revitalization of the health system with the aim of tackling the main causes of ill health - HIV & TB, maternal and child mortality, non-communicable diseases and injuries & violence. DFID is supporting this endeavour through the Strengthening South Africa's Revitalised Response to HIV and Health. The purpose of the SARRAH programme is to improve governance of the national response to HIV and health by supporting reforms in the public health sector, in the South African National AIDS Council, and through improving accountability through Parliament and Civil Society.
