Abstract

Both SADHS and SABSSM V are well designed and carefully conducted surveys with different purposes using different methodologies. For the first time SADHS has included lab testing to establish HIV status. Both surveys have collected information that could report on the drivers of the HIV epidemic among AGYW. A direct comparison of findings in the absence of understanding and adjusting for the different methodologies used inthe two surveys could send the wrong message to policy makers and stakeholders. This study allows for data triangulation, using a standardized analysis, and confirmation of findings from 2 key national surveys in South Africa.
