A situational analysis of Trans and Gender Diverse Students experiences, needs, challenges, policies and best practices in 9 South African universities

Abstract

The Research Project focuses on trans and gender diverse experiences, needs, challenges, policies and best practices at universities in each of the nine South African provinces, including the University of the Free State (UFS), University of Fort Hare (UFH), University of the Western Cape (UWC), Sol Plaatje University (SPU), University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN), North-West University (NWU), University of Mpumalanga (UMP), University of Limpopo (UL) and University of the Witwatersrand (Wits). The aim of the research is to obtain a comprehensive overview of the situation of trans and gender diverse students in the higher education context, nationally. The research findings will assist in advancing greater inclusion of trans and gender diverse persons in South African higher education contexts.
