To assess the reasons for internal and external migration with the aim to generate policy recommendations on migration To review the literature on migration in the context the Eastern Cape To assess the migrants, profile (origins, age, qualifications, gender) To assess the impact of migration on poverty and human capital To ascertain the role of internal and external migration for social cohesion and mechanism of strengthening ties between impoverished areas and richer metropolitan areas. To policy recommendations that are related to strengthening ties between impoverished areas and richer metropolitan areas. To ascertain the role of remittances in rural livelihoods.
