The State of population Eastern Cape Province
Abstract
The major objective of this project is to update the provincial state of the population report and integrate important demographic and social
information which has become available since the publication of the 2010 Report. Chief among this
is the set of data from the 2011 Census. Others include several new sets of demographic data
produced by Statistic South Africa and other national departments and institutions which contain
valuable information on the Eastern Cape Province.
Following the pattern in our 2010 study, the 2014 report will address the complex interrelations of
population patterns, demographic dynamics and development challenges in empirical experience
of the Eastern Cape. The study will produce carefully researched information and analysis for each
theme in population and development in the Eastern Cape.
The project will be undertaken by the team of population research experts who produced the 2010
report with additional professional input from other researchers where necessary. The research team
will implement stringent quality assurance measures including peer review to guarantee that results
that are of a high quality in all phases of the work.
