Abstract

There is overwhelming scientific evidence that the parent-child relationship, in particular responsive sensitive care in the first 1000 days of life is critical to children s development. The benefits of responsive caregiving are seen across all domains of child development including in the development of secure attachments, which in turn are critical to healthy relationships later in life, and in attention and language skills which are key to later school achievement and ultimately economic productivity in the adult years.
