Abstract

This review follows the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. The scope of this review is to assess the state of the evidence for three research questions: What individual, social and structural factors (correlates, risk factors, or predictors) are associated with sexual risk-taking among HIV-negative adolescents and young women in sub-Saharan Africa? Which interventions, aimed at reducing sexual risk-taking among HIV-negative adolescents and young women have been tested, and how effective were they? What are the effects of HIV prevention programmes targeted at adolescents and young women on HIV incidence in this group?
