DMV: Editing and Publishing of Military Veterans Life-story Manuscripts

Abstract

The project entails editing and publishing of life-story/biography manuscripts produced by six military veterans. DMV has prioritized the preparation and publication of six manuscripts. These are: 1. Khaya Skweyiya - Personal memoirs of a former Umkhonto we Sizwe special operations combatant 2. Oupa Ramachela &Uriel; Abrahams - History of the MK in Angola 1976-1989 3. Gertrude Fester - Prison Note Book 1: Prison number V2957/88 4. Morena Motaung - Goodness and Sadness of being a Freedom fighter 5. Reddy Mazimba (Mabuse Mampane) - Son of the Liberation Struggle 6. Wonga Bottoman ??? Title to be confirmed Each life history will cover significant events in the life of the individual subject from birth to retirement and will focus on, among other things: (1) their early life and political socialisation; (2) role in the struggle and their sacrifices; (3) intergenerational dynamics, and how they experienced exile; (4) relationships in exile with spouses, children, and members of the host communities; (5) relationships after returning from exile with spouses, children, and neighbours in their communities; (6) women experiences in the struggle both inside and outside the country; (7) integration (post-conflict adjustment); (8) and current wellbeing. In addition, the project will involve skills transfer, particularly with regards to research, writing, and publishing in order to further capacitate veterans. Addendum: Research and Writing for Book Project on the Life on John Kgoana Nkadimeng - as per attached Annexure A (Proposal), and to extend the duration of the agreement.
