Analysis of NCD Prevention Policies in Africa (ANPPA) Research Fellowship

Abstract

ANPPA Fellowship. As an ANPPA fellow the HSRC was selected to conduct the country case study for South Africa. The Fellow will be expected to undertake the following key activities: ??? Secure in-country ethical approvals or other government approvals before the research can be conducted. ??? Develop a comprehensive document library that contains all relevant publications (formal publications, grey literature, government policies, directives, guidelines) that pertain to the development and current state NCD prevention policies in-country ??? Develop a list of local stakeholders for NCD prevention policy and identify individuals to be interviewed. ??? Pilot- test and adapt interview schedules developed collaboratively with the ANPPA team to the country context. ??? Set up and conduct qualitative interviews with local stakeholders. Record interviews and finalize transcripts of interviews (in English or French). ??? Document experiences using the draft methodology tool kit and provide feedback that will be used to improve and finalize the kit for public use ??? Support one doctoral student to complete his/her research project ??? Produce draft technical reports on the NCD policy process, incorporating both analyses of documentation and of the interview, following a template standardized across countries developed in coordination with APHRC. Revise the draft reports based on comments made by the APHRC team. ??? Undertake in-country policy engagement activities throughout the life of the project to ensure buy-in from decision makers and the intended audience of the case study findings ??? Dissemination of findings to local audiences. ??? Participation in joint activities coordinated by the ANPPA secretariat
