Abstract

Facebook is supporting independent academic research work in the sub-Saharan Anglophone Africa region in the field of AI Ethics. This research seeks to take into account different regional perspectives of AI and how best it can be developed and governed. This line of research will also complement and amplify the research that the Human Sciences Research Council of South Africa will be conducting in these areas, and is intended to be linked to similar initiatives supported by Facebook in other countries and regions, such as in APAC, India and Latin America. Drafting the call for research papers and disseminating the call via a dedicated section on Vendor???s website which shall include a link to the Facebook application site ??? Publicizing the Project via: o Creation of a webpage containing the Project details and instructions for submission of proposals within Vendor???s website, o Drafting a list of target institutions in the region, and issuance of invitations to them to submit proposals. ??? Participation in the selection committee to select the winning applications from the applications received. ??? Facilitation of receipt of proposals and coordinate with Facebook on the selection process for winning proposals. ??? Communication with applicants and selected researchers as required ??? Organization and hosting of a workshop in Accra, Ghana to facilitate discussion and collaboration between research grantees and sharing of research progress and findings from such workshop; ??? Drafting and publishing of workshop discussions ??? Publishing and promotion of research works online via Vendor???s website, and through other suitable channels as pre-approved by Facebook ??? Drafting final Project report with recommendations for further research
