Advancing Poetic Inquiry in the Global South 8th International Symposium on Poetic Inquiry

Abstract

The Consortium on Advancing Poetic Inquiry in the Global South is a team of academics and practitioners with combined teaching, research, education, supervision, and academic outputs in the field of poetic inquiry over the past decade. We are in the employ of the Human Sciences Research Council, the University of Kwa-Zulu Natal, the Durban University of Technology, the University of the Witwatersrand, and the South African College of Applied Psychology. Over the past decade, consortia members have found each other through individual efforts and outputs in this emerging area of poetic inquiry and participation in the International Symposium on Poetic Inquiry (ISPI), founded and hosted for the past decade in the Global North. At the last ISPI hosted in Canada in 2019, the group was awarded the privilege to bring the 8th International Symposium of Poetic Inquiry to the Global South for the first time in May 2022. In this past year of the pandemic, we held a series of three webinars in May 2021 with an aim to: 1) gather as a community of poetic inquirers around the world; 2) inform, educate, and engage new audiences with poetic inquiry; and 3) to stimulate, build interest and momentum for ISPI 2022. This work has all been self-funded. A successful grant from the HSRC would allow us to build on these foundations and grow the footprint of poetic inquiry in the Global South
