Abstract

The author first became interested in the antics of soccer fans in 2009 while attending the Soweto derby at Orlando Stadium. The images gathered together here are just of a few fans he has been following, documenting their zeal, spirit and devotion to their clubs. Focusing on Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates supporters, from cross-dressing to body-painting, exploring their meaning for fans and our understanding of soccer's role in South African society.
