Abstract
France is perhaps the only 'super power' to have a special relationship with its former colonies on the African continent, According to Schraeder, irrespective of the ideological angle from which France is led at any given time, French policy makers have consistently claimed that historical links and geographical proximity justify placing Francophone Africa within France's sphere of influence.-
