Abstract

The Social Aspects of HIV/AIDS and Health research programme of the Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC) was commissioned by the Gauteng Department of Health to assess the PMTCT programme in 15 pilot sites in Gauteng Province. The objectives of the study were: a) to assess the implementation of the components of the programme in four complexes; b) to analyse the lessons learned at the pilot sites and make recommendations for improvement; and to undertake a skills audit and to recommend best practices.
