Abstract
eThekwini Water Services have embarked on a programme of providing water and sanitation to communities living in scattered housing in the rural areas surrounding the city of Durban. Many of the households have never before had water and sanitation services. The areas are not suitable for full pressure water, and consequently other systems for service delivery been planned and presented to the public through consultation, information, and health education. The HSRC was commissioned to make an independent assessment of the degree to which the information has reached the affected communities and the extent of community acceptance of the new systems.-
