Mr Herman Jansen is Divisional Finance Manager for the Inclusive Economic Development (IED) division at the Human Sciences Research Council (HRSC). He is a finance professional with private sector experience in financial management, taxation and auditing. His work involves the management of the financial processes (policies, controls, systems, flows and tasks) within the division, so that it is efficient, effective and compliant with the Public Financial Management and Accountability (PFMA) and HSRC policies and procedures. He also provides strategic financial support to the division leadership to ensure sound financial management. He provides support with the financial aspects of proposal development, including the development of budgets and forecasts of expenditure, in accordance with the requirements of local and international funding organisations. He prepares financial reports at division and project levels in keeping with policies and procedures as well as audit requirements.

Herman also manages the financial evaluation, financial analysis, risk assessment and financing of new projects and new opportunities during all phases of project development from inception to financial closure. He ensures accuracy, timelines and integrity of financial information as well as cash flow management. In addition, he prepares and reviews monthly management accounts and other financial reports and manage month-end and year-end processes and deadlines.Herman has a BCom in Accounting Sciences and is a registered Tax Practitioner AGA (SA). Prior to joining the HSRC, Herman worked as a financial manager for various companies in the telecommunications and property development industries and completed his SAICA articles specialising in auditing and assurance.
