Professor Modimowabarwa Kanyane is an Acting Strategic Lead of the Developmental, Capable and Ethical State at the Human Sciences Research Council. He is also Professor Extraordinaire at the Tshwane University of Technology and Adjunct Professor at the University of Fort Hare. He holds Doctor of Administration degree from the University of Pretoria and a Certificate in International Economic and Financial Negotiations from International Institute of Public Administration in France. His area of interest includes public administration, political and economic governance, local government, intergovernmental relations, ethics and accountability and smart rural village and rural development.

Experience and special projects: He established himself over years as a renowned scholar and researcher in various areas of Public administration including ethics and accountability, local government, development and intergovernmental relations. He supervised 68 masters? dissertations and PhD theses to successful completion. He participated in over 100 local and international activities, presented papers, keynote addresses and chaired sessions, facilitated training and led large-scale social science research which culminated into high impact publications. During the past decade he has mostly conducted his research local government, political and economic governance in BRICS countries, smart rural village and rural development as well as ethics and accountability.

As a governance expert, in particular, his research has focused on political and economic governance. Prof Kanyane has outstanding analytic and writing skills adapted to fourth Industrial revolution. Given his research experience and exposure in research and scholarship, Prof Kanyane is a recipient of the two HSRC Senior Research Excellence awards and a member of the Council of the University of Mpumalanga as well as a Chair of the BRICS Political and Economic Governance Cluster of the South African BRICS Think Tank (SABTT).

Publications: Professor Kanyane has published 30 scientific articles in both local and international peer-reviewed academic journals including books, book chapters and policy briefs, 30 non-peer reviewed publications and 22 research reports. He is currently a volume editor ?When officials and politicians behave badly - issues, cases and interventions? and one of the editors of the volumes ?Paradise lost: Race and racism in post-apartheid South Africa?, ?Culture and rural-urban revitalization in South Africa? and ?A call for action: A reflection on the tenets of Public Administration?.
