PE office enters #WRADChallenge2019

CATEGORY: Human and Social Capabilities
DATE: 8 February 2019

HSRC staff members in Port Elizabeth took time to participate in the NGO Nal’ibali’s #WRADChallenge2019 by reading aloud the set story “Where are you?” to children in three official languages on World Read Aloud Day (WRAD), 1 February 2019. Nal’ibali aimed at reaching 1.5 million children on the day given that reading aloud builds a strong language foundation, introduces vocabulary and can develop empathy, curiosity and critical thinking. The ultimate aim of Nal’ibali is to contribute to a South Africa where children read for enjoyment, meaning and understanding.  Here are Nomfanelo Plaatjie (isiXhosa), Adlai Davids (Afrikaans) and Razia Gaida (English) with their young WRAD audiences at the EP Children’s Home and Chani’s Aftercare, respectively.
