Special Edition African Insight Journal Publication

Abstract

The goal of the writing retreat is to increase publication outputs without overburdening research staff. The workshop for the special issue will allow focused collaboration in that it will bring together researchers in a retreat setting allowing for concentration. Participants who will include senior researchers and research trainees can exchange ideas, provide feedback, and work together to address challenges specific to studying disaster risk in Africa.Overall, a scientific writing retreat dedicated to journal articles on disaster risk in Africa can serve as a catalyst for advancing research in this important area, fostering collaboration, and ultimately contributing to improved understanding and mitigation of disaster risks in Africa. The workshop also address the Africa Agenda focus of the HSRC by partnering with researchers from other African countries. The Table below is a list of participants i.e. the Editorial team and authors including the organising committee. The success of this workshop will result in positive and impactful contributions and interventions to climate change as well as the rapid response of Disaster Risk Management (DRM) within Africa. The topics/issues that will be addressed at the retreat, directly link to climate change and the socio-economic impact it has in Africa. We will also be specifically working with African authors and scholars as well as contributing to capacity building. In doing so, this will also assist the programme with the LeaPPTS target/s.
