To mark the 40th anniversary of its opening-up policy, China hosted an international forum to share the lessons of its metamorphosis from an impoverished agrarian society to a powerhouse of the global economy. One of the country’s best-kept secrets revealed at the forum was the collaboration fostered between cities and rural areas to induce development in lagging regions.
