Abstract

South Africa has participated in five rounds of the Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS) in 1995, 1999, 2003, 2011 and 2015. The results and analyses of these studies have been a valuable resource for monitoring educational effectiveness in the country. This contract will be for the Western Cape Education Department to participate on a Provincial level in the TIMSS 2019 study at Grade 9 level. The study will entail administering the TIMSS instruments in an extended sample of Western Cape schools to allow for a Provincial benchmarking of achievement against SA and other countries.
