Abstract

Graduate employment continues to be an issue of concern to policy makers, employers, education and training institutions and graduates themselves. Understanding the patterns of graduate outcomes is important in shaping the curriculum, pedagogy and the relationship between graduates and the world of work. One of the key aspects of this relationship is ensuring that the relevant skills and attributes are developed in graduates as part of their university experience. The main aim of the study is to determine the employment outcomes of natural science graduates between 2007 and 2017. More specifically, the study will determine factors that explain the patterns of labour market participation of graduates, by addressing the following questions: 1. What are the final destinations of Natural Science graduates? 2. What are individual, and institutional determinants that influence successful/unsuccessful transitions into the labour market? 3. What are key stakeholders??? perceptions of employability attributes of natural sciences graduates in South Africa?
