In 2014, Hilda Watani was appointed as a Administrator at the Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC). She performs the function of administration for the LMIP project and office support for the Pretoria ESD unit.

Watani holds a Diploma in Business Management from Western Governors Graduate School, Health and Social care NVQ Level 2 from the United Kingdom. She completed a diploma in Project Management with the Academy of York. She also holds a Basic Bookkeeping Certificate from Damelin College and Commercial Accounting Certificate from the University of Witwatersrand.

Watani joined the HSRC in 2008 and was a Project Financial Administrator in the Economic Performance and Development research programme. Before joining the HSRC she worked as a Health Care Assistant in different institutions in the UK from 2006 to 2008. Prior to that she worked as Senior Financial Clerk and Personal Assistant to the Nedlac Director under the Department of Labour from 2000 to 2004. Her first employment was with the Institute for Democracy Alternative for South Africa as the Supervisor of the Local Government Information Centre (LOGIC), Junior Bookkeeper and Receptionist from 1994 to 1998. Hilda is an associate member of The Association of Business Executives (ABE).
