Abstract

The aim of this project is to contribute to the United Nations Human Settlement Programme???s (UN-HABITAT) work on national urban policies (NUP) in Africa. The study has three objectives. These three objectives form the key phases and deliverables of the study. 1.Conduct a desktop review and analysis of the status of existing National Urban Policies (NUP) in Africa. 2.Draft a background paper to support the UN-HABITAT's NUP framework in Africa, including specific support to Zambia's NUP discussion paper. 3.Compile a paper on the evolution and formulation of national urban policies based upon five short case studies, i.e. from Latin America, sub-Saharan Africa, Europe, East Asia and South East Asia. Paper to be presented at the 7th Session of the World Urban Forum in Medellin, Colombia
