Adolescent Living with HIV Aids

Abstract

The proposed project aims to provide insight into the adolescent HIV/AIDS epidemic in South Africa, by analysing data from the five series of SABSSM surveys (2002-2017). Based on a desk-top review and the recommendations of a working group on adolescent health, research gaps will be identified. This collaboration will aim to produce a report and draft selected peer reviewed journal articles that capture results and findings, combining quantitative data from the SABSSM surveys, and qualitative data from the Mzantsi Wakho study conducted in the Eastern Cape. Mzantsi Wakho is the largest known, longitudinal study on medicines-taking and sexual health among HIV-positive adolescents. Through this study qualitative research has been conducted since 2013, and represents a rich data set which will be analysed and combined with targeted findings from SABSSM surveys.
