IEC Exit Poll Survey (Election Satisfaction Survey (ESS) Project

Abstract

The intention of an exit poll is to determine the experiences of voters on Election Day. Experiences are fresh in the minds of the selected voters and a good overview of the operational efficiency of the IEC on the Election Day can be determined. The study method will comprise brief (5-minute) interviews with 50 to 70 randomly selected voters exiting from 200 randomly selected voting stations. Voters will be asked questions pertaining to their experiences on Election Day. The questions will include the distance travelled to the voting station, means of transport utilised, time spent in the voting queue, perception of IEC officials??? competence, and perception of the freeness and fairness of the election. The actual conducting of the fieldwork will take place on Election Day. Data will be captured in the following 48 hours and an interim report will be available two to three days after the Election Day. A final comprehensive report will be produced two weeks after Election Day.
