Abstract

The Liberation Studies Institute will: conduct research on the liberation struggle archives to enhance public access to material pertaining to the struggle;conduct research on the history of the liberation struggle to strengthen research in the humanities; facilitate capacity building of young researchers in archival and qualitative research methodologies; contribute to vibrant public debate informed by evidence-based research on issues related to the South African liberation struggle; and disseminate and publish on various aspects of the liberation struggle. The Institute would undertake specialist research on the liberation struggle that informs policy and the understanding and implementation of policy, and would provide a means of providing institutional oversight and improving collaboration, as well as providing and disseminating research to units, centres and research programmes within the HSRC as well as Parliament, government departments, and the general public.
