Langa Turning 100: Looking back and Forward through the lens of Social, Economic and Political History

Abstract

This study aims to examine transformations in social, economic and political circumstances and the impact of these changes in Langa over the last 100 years. This will allow constructing a history from below, meaning from the point of view of ordinary people that is not always possible in macro-level studies. In broad terms, the study will look at class and socio-economic trajectories, contributions to society, educational qualifications, community engagement, socio-cultural aspects, the township economy and access to housing and urban land.
