Abstract
The De Lange Report, officially known as the Report of the Main Committee of the HSRC Investigation into Education, was submitted to the Cabinet of the Republic of South Africa in July 1981 (HSRC 1981). The HSRC had received its commission less than 13 months earlier on 25 June 1980. In terms of the number of participants, it was probably the largest cooperative research effort this country had ever seen. Its scope was wide - all aspects of education - and outputs impressive: the reports of 18 working committees and the main committee totalling thousands of pages.-
