Abstract

The main focus of this paper is on where South Africa presently is in relation to its goals of increasing R&D spending in key areas and improving its human resource base. The discussion is based on key findings of a recent R&D survey commissioned by the Department of Science and Technology and undertaken by the HSRC. The paper ends with a very brief overview of critical questions and challenges for future R&D management in South Africa.
