Darryn Whisgary is a Research Coordinator at the Centre for Science, Technology and Innovation Indicators (CeSTII), within the Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC) of South Africa, working as part of the team that is dedicated to producing policy relevant research and statistical analysis in the domain of science, technology and innovation (STI). He holds a M.Sc. in Herbal Sciences, a B.Sc. (Honours) in Herbal Sciences both from the University of the Western Cape (UWC), and a N.Dip. in Horticulture from the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT).

Before joining the HSRC as an acting Project Manager (2015), he held a number of contractual appointments. In 2011 he accepted an appointment as a Lecturer at the School of Pharmacy, UWC specialising in the areas of bacteriology, virology, mycology, parasitology and pharmaceutical chemistry. He has co-supervised 6 B.Pharm Degree research students in the discipline of Pharmaceutical Chemistry and mentored a number of post-graduate and undergraduate students in various disciplines. He also held positions as a Researcher (2011) for the South African Traditional Medicines Research Group, most notably known for the South African Pharmacopoeia Monograph Project publication, UWC and the Medical Research Council of South Africa (MRC-SA), a Research Assistant (2009) at The International Centre for Indigenous Phytotherapy Studies, UWC / University of Missouri-Columbia (UMC) and a Lecturing Assistant (2009) at the Department of Biodiversity and Conservation Biology, UWC.

Darryn?s special interests centre on the development of Science and Technology (S&T) in southern Africa, through: education, skills development and capacity-building.

He holds a wide reaching expertise in management, teaching, mentoring, research design, project management, strategic planning, database management, data management, phytochemical analysis and report writing.
