Abstract

The HSRC serves as National Research Coordinator, in collaboration with the Department of Basic Education, for the International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement (IEA) in administering TIMSS-N 2014 in South Africa which is the first cycle in the series. TIMSS-N is an educational research project sponsored by the IEA to measure trends in student achievement in mathematics at Grades 4 and 5, and studies differences in national education systems in more than 10 countries in order to help improve teaching and learning worldwide. It also provides each participating country with a rich resource for interpreting its achievement results and to track changes in instruction practices.
