Abstract

Violence among adolescents and young adults is a significant social problem in South Africa. While some intervention programmes seek to ameliorate the problem, the evidence base for successful intervention is not well developed locally. NICRO approached the HSRC to conduct a research review on the causes of violent behaviour in young people, and to provide recommendations for the assessment of violence risk in this population. The study also provided NICRO with recommendations for effective evidence-based interventions for the secondary and tertiary prevention of violent behaviour among adolescents.
