Abstract

This paper presents an example of a nascent sector that is already largely committed to the principles of communication for development and which now stands on the brink of putting them into practice. This process, together with its outcomes, will undoubtedly add a fresh piece of the experiential mosaic that the discipline has built up globally over the last 30 years. Presenting South Africa's experience will allow WCCD delegates to analyse and evaluate the innovative and even unique aspects of this new initiative as well as the deeply participative research effort that accompanies it. Finally, it is hoped the WCCD conference will enable South Africa to take its place in the global communications for development family, to participate in ongoing scholarships and to share its experiences and challenges.
